I tossed and turned all night. The alarm went off and I didn’t want to get up so I hit the snooze. Finally, I had to get out of bed. I zombie walked into the kitchen to get coffee. I showered (sometimes I don’t), brushed my teeth, got dressed and headed to work.

This is my reality on mornings I choose to ignore the voice. These are my mornings where I have to react to life instead of stepping into my mission and attacking.

What does the voice say? I am glad you asked.

It says: “Awareness precedes change.”

In order to become more effective in dealing with stress, increasing production at work, or even with your family you have to maintain your self – awareness which means you need to be in touch with your mission, your core values, and your stress levels. In other words, you need a system to maintain yourself.

It starts in the morning. Trust me, this was the hardest thing for me to be consistent with and I still struggle with it but the fact is, there is a measurable difference in my effectiveness in all areas of life when I do these 3 things in the morning vs when I don’t

1.Joint Rotations. This is my “sweat.” It isn’t a workout and I don’t count it as one but I get my body moving by doing a 5-15 minute mobility session. This is the very first thing to do when you get out of bed. Before coffee, before teeth, before anything! Start at your neck and work your way down.
2.Journal. This concept has become the “cool” thing to do. I see it popping up everywhere and it is very effective if you actually do it. I know it starts off fun but when the going gets tough, do you keep going? Most people quit inside 2 weeks. 2 Weeks! It takes consistent effort for months to elicit real change and when you can do it for years magic happens.
Inspire Yourself. This is a simple thing that I started doing and it yields amazing inspiration every single morning. I created a mantra about my family and about my mission and I read it before I leave the house. It is my war cry. My driving force. It took me a while to create the perfect message but now that I have it, I can’t go without it. I put it as the screen saver on my phone so I can see it when I get stressed out. No, I will not share it. haha. This one is just for me! Also, it is more powerful if you create your own. Here are some guidelines to creating mantras: use words you love about the things you want the most in order to become the person you always knew you could be.

Hacking your own brain is the key to success in anything. If you try to emulate other great or successful people it won’t work. You have to put your own stamp on it. The morning routine is something every single successful person I have ever read, studied, or met does. The only difference is that they all put their own stamp on it. I will leave you with what is quickly becoming one of our new slogans:

==> Don’t tell me, SHOW ME <==
